It’s Friday! Gracias a Dios es Viernes (Thank God it’s Friday)! I had a Colombian coworker once and he was determined to teach me Spanish, that’s one of the few things I remember lol. 🙂 It is a glorious 60 degrees on this beautiful Spring morning (60 degrees at 8 in the morning! This is what I live for.) and there’s a chance of some thunderstorms this afternoon. I LOVE a good thunderstorm, as long as they aren’t damaging.
I thought I’d post another Flashback Friday on the shed construction. This week I’m going to share all the fun of framing! Yes, it’s as exciting as it sounds. 🙂 Continue reading
Spring has sprung again! After having cold, cold weather for a few days we’re back into warmer Spring days. Unfortunately, all of those early budding trees had their blossoms killed off but that’s what happens when things warm up too early. Right now the henbit and dandelions are in full bloom and I’ve got a fierce case Spring Fever. Continue reading
Winter is back! Hopefully for its final “hurrah!”, I’ve lost my cold weather tolerance. The last couple days have been cold and drizzly with occasional flurries, perfect weather for staying in. Which is what I’ve done and it’s been wonderful! Of course we have to do all of the chores (feeding and watering everyone, milking the goats, collecting eggs, and watering all the plants in the greenhouse) but once all of that is done we’ve been taking it easy. Continue reading
Over a three day period in September 2015, my Dad and Uncle poured the foundation for my shed! I helped with what I could but I can’t take credit for doing too much. 🙂
It may seem really backwards to start my homestead by building a potting shed first. The reason we chose to do it that way was so I could use the shed as storage until the house is complete, which could be a couple years (I’m not financing the construction, I’m paying out of pocket as we go and we’re doing all of the work ourselves). I’m going to start off by posting a couple pictures I meant to post yesterday. I totally fell asleep watching TV last night and woke up at a very unreasonable hour and decided it just wasn’t worth getting my laptop out. So, here it is:
This little nugget was born right in front of me yesterday morning when I was feeding my horse, Zip, and filling the cattle stock tanks.
The pic isn’t the greatest, I didn’t want to spook the mama & baby. This little guy is literally just 5 seconds old!
Spring has sprung on the farm! We started seeing signs of an early Spring nearly a month ago: lots of geese flying north, daffodil and iris peeking through the ground, trees budding out, the Spring peepers peeping, and red robins bob bob bobbin’ along.
Now, Spring is in full swing! Continue reading
We got more ducks! A friend of ours brought seven ducks to us on Friday and they are settling in well. It’s so relaxing to watch them swim around the pond. I love them!
Gobbling up their corn!
Hopefully one of them will nest soon and then we’ll have little baby ducks swimming around the pond this Spring. How cute will that be? Continue reading
Most days my Dad and I team up to do the farm chores together. Today my parents had to spend the entire day with my grandpa so that left me on my own to run the farm. Yikes! Things went pretty well… I managed to bang my head on the corner of a utility sink… hard, like “do I have a concussion?” hard (I don’t, just a painful bruise). Continue reading
