There are always surprises on the farm, we hope for good surprises but it seems like we usually get not so good surprises. 🙂 On Tuesday Dad was driving one of the tractors (the big, four-wheel drive, work horse tractor) when the front end started going “ka-chunk, ka-chunk, ka-chunk” and the front wheels started locking up. Plant the Seeds and Watch Them Grow
Yesterday was a busy day of planting! What’s the point of living in the country if you aren’t going to have lots and lots of fresh fruits and veggies? A few months ago I’d ordered some Patriot Blueberry bushes and grape vines (two Somersets and two Concords) and they FINALLY came this week. They’re small, bare-rooted plants right now but they should take off quickly. I planted the blueberry bushes along the west side of the potting shed, they’ll get good sunlight there. I was planning on putting in a flowerbed along that wall so I’ll add some ornamental plants around the blueberries. Continue reading
It’s Calf Selling Time!
Today was calf selling day! Well, technically the sale is tomorrow but we took them to the sale barn today. It was a busy and exhausting day! For the last month or so we’ve been feeding the weaned calves in the corral to get them used to going in there. Today was the day we closed the gate on them! It was the big day for the heifers, two loads of them! We had to sort off the bull calves because they aren’t ready to ship yet, they won’t be bulls when they go to the sale barn. 😉 Continue reading

If April Showers Bring May Flowers, What do May Showers Bring?
Hello all! We did indeed get more rain this week, it is soggy ’round here! On Wednesday we got over 3 inches (not quite 3 1/4 inches) bringing our grand total to nearly 10 inches of rain in 6 days. And, still, we’re lucky. A little further south of us they got over 15 inches of rain in that same time period.
But now we’ve had two sunny days in a row! The rivers are receding, the highways are reopening, and those that had flood damage are cleaning up and repairing. Continue reading
